Construction of a $2.3 Million Financial Analysis Lab in Mervis Hall Is Nearly Complete  >

3D Rendering of Financial Analysis Lab

Construction of the 3,000 square foot lab resembling the trading floors maintained by investment banks and financial firms began in December 2007. Once completed, the lab will give Katz/CBA students exposure to real-time financial information flows and top-notch analytic tools. The lab will house 58 computer stations in a classroom arrangement as well as technology-enhanced breakout and conference rooms, a lab manager's office, an operations room, and flexible office space. Construction on the lab is scheduled to be completed in April.

Making a Difference in Millvale >

Over the last several months, three CBA students have raised more than $7,000 for a library in the community of Millvale, which was severely affected by flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan. The students, members of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP)-an honorary organization for accounting, finance, and information systems students and professionals, recently presented their project at the Atlantic Coast Regional Meeting of BAP in Providence, RI and won second place in the Best Practices competition, Service: Making a Difference in an Economically-Distressed Community topic.

A study conducted by Katz finance faculty members Leonce Bargeron and Chad Zutter, both assistant professors, and Ken Lehn, the Samuel A. McCullough Professor of Finance, was mentioned in a July 26 article in The Economist. Their study looked at the effects of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 on publicly traded American companies.
