Disaster in Japan

Dear Pitt Business Alumni,

We are deeply saddened to hear of the terrible tragedy that has struck Japan. The devastation resulting from the earthquake and tsunami has shocked the world. On behalf of the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration, we sincerely hope all of our Japanese alumni are safe. We are thinking of you.

It is times like this that we come together as a community. Please let us know how you are doing and if there is anything you need from us. Our thoughts are with you in this terrible time of tragedy. We hope to hear from you soon.

John T. Delaney, Dean
Jim Waite, Director, Alumni Relations

As a representative to the Pitt Business Alumni Association Board from KGSB Japan Alumni Network (JANet), I very much appreciate all support for Japan from Dean Delaney, Jim Waite, administration/faculty members, students, alumni, and entire Katz/CBA family. Although Japan is facing very difficult time, its bond to the Katz/CBA family is unshakable and will be even stronger. Kazunobu Nakao (MBA '94)

Thank you very much for your warm words. I work for Tokio Marine & Fire Insurance based in Tokyo. We, at Tokio Marine, are now trying hard to fulfill our responsibilities as an insurer, while providing social and financial assistance to the people and local communities heavily struck by the earthquake and tsunami. It's so sad, though, to hear the report that the losses of lives are substantially increasing every day. Also, we realize that there is concern about an accident of an atomic power plant there and the Tokyo stock market. Yet we should be fine. Again, thank you for your kindness. Mitsuru Muraki (MBA '90)

Thanks for your consideration, Dean Delaney and Jim. I live in Tokyo, which doesn't suffer from little damage, so I, my family, friends, colleagues are accounted for and safe. In Tokyo all utilities (gas, water, and electricity) are now working, so no problem. However, all Japanese are in shock from the devastation of the northeast area (Tohoku) of Japan. As reported, tens of thousands of people passed away or are not still accounted for due to devastating tsunami attack. If possible, please donate money or just come to Japan for sightseeing. http://www.redcross.org or http://www.japantravelinfo.com/top/index.php I am sure you can enjoy Japan at cheaper prices. Your consumption in Japan helps us revive the Japan Economy. Except Tohoku area (northeasten part of Japan), Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and other good sightseeing places are now safe. Yuichi Hotei (MBA/MS-MIS '06)

Dear Dean John T. Delaney, Mr. Jim Waite and Katz alumni, I highly appreciate your warm comments, which encouraged us so much. Fortunately, my family, friends and myself are all OK so far. Although the traffic and electricity are still in chaos here in Tokyo, our lives are getting back to usual. The strong support and kind messages from global society have encouraged (and are still encouraging) Japanese citizens. We sincerely appreciate them. With warmest wishes, Hitoshi Minasawa (MBA '08)
