The David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School in partnership with the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society of Financial Professionals (FSP) will host the 9th Annual Pittsburgh Business Ethics Awards. Designed to honor companies that demonstrate a firm commitment to ethical practices in their everyday operations, philosophies, and responses to crises an9thd challenges, the Business Ethics Awards will be held in February 12, 2010 at the Omni William Penn, 5330 William Penn Place, Downtown.

The David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership has launched a new effort focusing on sustainable agriculture. In partnership with Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA), students from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in São Paulo, Brazil, engaged in a project to better understand how the food supply chain operates in the Pittsburgh region and nationally. Students traced the local food system beginning with a visit to the Harvest Valley Farms in Valencia, Pa., and through key distribution centers in the region.
The annual Pittsburgh Business Ethics Awards (PBEA), cohosted by the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society of Financial Services Professionals (FSP), took place at noon Feb 13. The awards honor local companies that demonstrate commitment to ethical business practices.

As students from six colleges and universities learned by taking part in the first annual Berg Cup Case Study Competition, hosted by the David Berg Center for Ethics and Leadership Pitt's Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda, there is a great deal to be gained by going beyond compliance in terms of ethics. Pittsburgh Business Radio host Mark DeSantis looks at the idea of generation gaps in the workplace, as many workplaces are now occupied by up to four generations of personnel. Joining him for this discussion are Dr. Audrey Murrell, a Professor at the Katz School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as Chris DeSantis, an organizational development consultant.
The Berg Center was recently invited to attend the 2009 Ethics Symposium hosted by the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh. The event was designed to teach high school students the importance of being ethical leaders. Dr. Audrey Murrell and the Berg Center staff facilitated a workshop on "Social Entrepreneurship." The students worked in groups and developed a program or event that they could do at their schools or in their communities that would bring about social change and awareness for a specific cause.
