Mentor Program

One of the special programs available only to Certificate Program in Leadership and Ethics (CPLE) students is the mentoring program. In this program, second-year CPLE students are paired with corporate or faculty mentors who are best able to guide them.

Through discussion with the mentor, the student creates a plan to achieve a specific goal or tackle a career-related problem. Mentors from such companies as Alcoa, MSA, and Mellon Financial have generously signed on to the project. The program is designed to require a limited amount of time from the mentor while providing invaluable guidance and advice to the student.

The Mentoring Process

The process involves an initial brief meeting with the mentor at which the student receives guidance on some of the issues or concerns that may be addressed in a three- to five-page paper. Examples of practical concerns a student may wish to address are a career-action plan or a plan to develop a specific leadership skill.

The student submits the resulting paper to the teacher and the mentor and receives feedback from both.
