"Whatever education is, it should make you a unique individual, not a conformist; it should furnish you with an original spirit with which to tackle the big challenges; it should allow you to find values, which will be your road map through life; it should make you spiritually rich, a person who loves whatever you are doing, where you are, whomever you are with; it should teach you what is important, how to live, and how to die." —John Taylor Gatto
I began my professional life in the classroom, teaching high-school social studies. Although I had intended to go into high-school guidance, my career changed direction when I accepted a position in the insurance industry. I spent a few years at a large professional group and later worked for a small private agency. I enjoyed the marketing and sales aspects of the job, which translated well when I entered the college-admissions field. I have worked for the past several years in that area of higher education, including a stint as director of admissions at Wheeling Jesuit University. My extensive student-service experience has been an asset in becoming a CBA advisor.
I truly enjoy working with all of the students I've met so far. When I began in this position, I was assigned most of the new transfer students. Planning transfer orientations was also a great part of my introduction to the many resources and opportunities that Pitt has to offer.
In my spare time, I have served as a coach for indoor and outdoor youth soccer for about 10 years. I also served as a volunteer during the inaugural season for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, and continue to be a fan. On autumn Sundays, you can find me at Steeler games. I enjoy photography, reading, traveling to Civil War sites, and assuming the cooking duties on the weekend (for which my wife is extremely grateful!).
