Kevin Riley

I'm an academic advisor for CBA, and right now about 250 students are assigned to my care. Advising duties take up the bulk of my time, but I also maintain the CBA Website. In addition, I'm the tech-support person of first resort for the CBA offices.

For a little over a year before I came to the CBA in 1995, I was a stay-at-home dad. I took care of my son, Sam, who was then 2 years old. It was a wonderful time that I'll always treasure. Prior to that, I was a PhD student in Pitt's Department of Geology and Planetary Science. My research focus was the structural geology of the planet Venus. To earn my keep while in graduate school I was a teaching fellow for two years and an academic advisor in the School of Arts and Sciences (A&S) for three and a half years.

My wife, Charlie, also works at Pitt. She is a student counselor in A&S' Student Support Services. You might say that academic advising is the family business. We have two children, Sasha and Sam, two cats, and one energetic dog. Outside of family and work, my other interests include computers (I'm a big Apple Macintosh fan), desktop publishing, web publishing, computer graphics, science fiction, astronomy, They Might Be Giants, and Gilbert and Sullivan.
