“Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.“ —Booker T. Washington
My professional life began as an admissions counselor at the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. I served as the administrative-recruitment coordinator for several years and planned recruitment activities for the Pennsylvania recruitment market (approximately 80% of Pitt’s applicant pool). I also coordinated all off-campus travel for both in-state and out-of-state markets. Many of you may have attended our college fairs and hotel receptions. I really enjoyed the public-relations aspect of this position, which allowed me to meet with potential students and their families and establish relationships with various guidance counselors and career centers from different school districts. I also had the opportunity to manage a team of full-time staff members who traveled across the state, as well as to assist in coordinating off-campus programs for Pitt Alumni from all across the country (including Alaska and Hawaii).
Other professional experiences included working as a Financial Aid Advisor at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. I also worked a few years as a client systems coordinator within a non-profit agency.
My extensive background in higher education has truly been an asset for my current position as an Academic Advisor in CBA. For the past few years that I’ve been here, I have enjoyed working one-on-one with enthusiastic students and assisting them with setting academic and career goals.
In addition to academic advising, I currently serve as the advisor to the Roberto Clemente Minority Business Association (RCMBA). I have the opportunity to work with some of the most talented and high-achieving students within our college. This organization has been instrumental in assisting undergraduate students with launching the next stage of their career through ongoing professional development. RCMBA has sponsored site visits to various corporations; workshops facilitated by managers and executive from the corporate community; academic programming; social events; and the Minorities in Pittsburgh Conference, which provides a tremendous opportunity to network for post graduate employment and internships.
I also assist the CBA Admissions Office with recruiting potential freshmen through the various on-campus admissions programs.
Now that you know a little about me, I look forward to meeting you in person so that I can get to know you!
