CBA Career Services Interview Cancellation/No Show Policy

General Policy

CBA Career Services requires that all students participating in events or scheduling appointments with CBA Career Services cancel registrations or appointments in advance if they cannot keep the commitment. Canceling at the last minute or failing to show for an event or appointment has a negative impact on your reputation as a business student and business professional. Furthermore, your actions reflect poorly on the College of Business Administration and the University of Pittsburgh for those events where corporations are participating. By not canceling in advance you may deprive another student of an appointment time or event registration opportunity.

CBA Career Services treats these incidents very seriously and advises you read the following Cancellation and No Show Policy requirements:

How to Cancel

You must cancel your event registration or appointment no later than 24 hours before the scheduled event or appointment.

  • Cancel Appointments Online: Login to CBA Connect. Select "Calendar". Then click "Counseling Appointment". Click "Cancel" next to the appointment that you wish to cancel.
Note: You will only be able to cancel online 24 hours or more in advance of the appointment. If you do not see the "Cancel" button, then you've missed the online cancellation deadline and must contact CBA Career Services directly.
  • Cancel Events Online: Login to CBA Connect. Select "Events". Then click "Workshops and Other Events." Find the event you wish to cancel and click the "Cancel" button.
Note: You will only be able to cancel online 24 hours or more in advance of the event. If you do not see the "Cancel" button, then you've missed the online cancellation deadline and must contact CBA Career Services directly.
  • Contact CBA Career Services: You may also contact CBA Career Services directly to cancel your event registration or appointment by either of the two methods that follow: 1) send an email to cbacareers@katz.pitt.edu within 24 hours of the scheduled event or appointment, or 2) call CBA Career Services (412-383-7319, Option 1 then Option 4) M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5:00pm at least 24 hours before the scheduled event or appointment. In both cases please provide complete details: name, event/appointment with name, date/time of event or appointment.
Refer to the Late Cancellations and No Shows section below for penalties and appeal procedures if you are cancelling late or fail to show up for your appointments.
  • Event/Appointment Day Emergencies: In the event of a sudden illness or extreme personal emergency on the day of the event or appointment, students are expected to contact CBA Career Services Main Desk at (412) 383-0025 by no later than 9:00am that day.

Late Cancellations and No-Shows

If you cancel event registrations or appointments with less than 24 hours notice (late cancellation) or fail to show up (no-show), CBA Career Services will treat these instances seriously and will enforce the following penalties:

First and Second "NO SHOW" Violation

  • No-Show: If you fail to appear for an event or appointment with no prior notice, you will receive a warning letter from CBA Career Services

Third "NO SHOW" Violation

  • A third no-show will result in your permanent suspension from CBA Connect for the rest of the academic year or until you attend a one-on-one meeting with the Director of CBA Career Services.

Late Cancellations

  • Each late cancellation counts as a half of a no show. Therefore you will receive a warning letter after your 2nd and 4th late cancellation.
  • A 6th late cancellation will result in your permanent suspension from CBA Connect for the rest of the academic year or until you attend a one-on-one meeting with the Director of CBA Career Services.

During your suspension period you will not have access to any features in CBA Connect for any purpose:

  • You will not be able to submit resumes, schedule interview appointments, or view your interview schedule.
  • Employers will not be able to preselect you for future interviews.
  • You will not be able to register for events of any kind.

However, you will be expected to honor all previously arranged appointments or event registrations during your suspension period. If you are unsure about the events or appointments for which you are scheduled, come in person to CBA Career Services (2110 Sennott Square) to obtain a copy.

A member of CBA Career Services staff will inform you of your pending suspension. You will be given a 48-hour grace period before the suspension goes into effect. During that time you may appeal your suspension if there were extenuating circumstances (as outlined below). If no appeal is made, the CBA Career Services staff will automatically deactivate your CBA Connect access for the prescribed timeframe.

Employers affected by these penalties may be referred to you for an explanation.

Appeal Process

You will have 48 hours to appeal your suspension following notification by CBA Career Services staff.

You may appeal your suspension if you feel that there were extenuating circumstances that resulted in your cancelling late or not appearing for your interview. Acceptable excuses might include a car accident, sudden hospitalization, family emergency, etc. - all subject to possible verification. Unacceptable excuses would include last-minute preparation for exams or term papers, getting up late, forgetting, not checking your OCI schedule, etc.

Follow these appeal procedures:

  • Submit an email to LeeAnn Falcon at lfalcon@katz.pitt.edu within 48 hours explaining why you cancelled late or did not show up for the interview. Include the organization name, interview date and time for your missed appointment
  • If you have any substantiating documentation you are encouraged to fax that information to CBA Career Services at (412) 383-7410.

Upon receipt of this information, the Director of CBA Career Services will review your case and CBA Career Services Staff will advise you of the final decision.
