Marketing professionals manage the commercial processes involved in promoting, selling and distributing a product or service. There are a variety of careers in retailing, sales management, marketing research, advertising and promotion, consumer-product marketing, or industrial marketing.

Skills Needed:

  • Able to communicate your thoughts, ideas, and information clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally
  • Recognize problems and devise an appropriate plan of action to resolve them
  • Organize and interpret complex data
  • Being creative and good at generating new ideas - then take and organize those ideas and communicate them verbally
  • Work well with others especially in a team environment

  • Actively participate with the American Marketing Association or any of the CBA student organizations to learn more about the field and network with peers and professionals
  • Job shadow or conduct an information interview with a professional in the marketing industry
  • Find a marketing internship or related career development experience
  • Marketing is environment in which recruiting tends to not be so "structured"—a lot of personal networking and effort may be needed to land a position in competitive market
