LLC Learns about Marketing at the Warhol

In February 2009, the CBA Living Learning Community members had their second opportunity this year to learn about Pittsburgh and its flourishing art scene. Students were taken on a docent-led tour of the Andy Warhol Museum, at which point they learned more about Pittsburgh native Andy Warhol, who was not only a successful artist, but an extremely successful businessman. Warhol had fully grasped the concept of marketing; he once said that "making money is art, and working is art, and good business is the best art." The tour was followed by dinner and discussion at Atria's at PNC Park. Accompanying the 19 LLC students were Associate Dean Ed Palascak, Academic Advisor Mike Kijowski, Resident Assistant Melinda Gorentz, and Kathy Rafferty, Academic Advisor and Liaison to the CBA Living Learning Community.

One of the goals for the CBA LLC is to assist the students in taking advantage of the many resources available through CBA, the University of Pittsburgh, and the city of Pittsburgh while providing experiences that will help them to become well-rounded, culturally literate world citizens. Toward that end, it has been a tradition for Associate Dean Palascak to facilitate at least one annual arts-based and dinner outing for members of the LLC.
