Business Student Organizations and Honor Societies

Student organizations are an essential part of the undergraduate experience. In addition to striving for good grades, participation in organizations is an excellent way for you to diversify your Pitt experience. These organizations coordinate speakers from the corporate community, arrange site visits to local offices of financial institutions and accounting firms, sponsor social activities for members, and much more. Not only will you develop new skills and talents and make new friends, but you will also enhance your employment potential.

Business Student Organizations

Alpha Kappa Psi

Alpha Kappa Psi is a professional business fraternity dedicated to the individual welfare and academic development of its members. It has a rich tradition of friendship, leadership, and service on Pitt's campus. The fraternity helps students develop into business professionals through interaction with executive speakers from the Pittsburgh corporate community and career development workshops. They participate in service projects, including volunteering for the Special Olympics and the annual Hand-in-Hand Festival. Membership is open to male and female CBA, A&S/Business dual, and Economics Majors. New members go through a nine- week pledging period in which they learn the history, rituals, and customs of the fraternity.

Delta Sigma Pi

Delta Sigma Pi International Business Fraternity has helped Pitt students develop into business professionals since 1921. The fraternity hosts a variety of speakers from the Pittsburgh corporate community, including accounting professionals, entrepreneurs, retail buyers, financial analysts, and real-estate professionals.  The fraternity also holds resume-building and job-placement workshops and organizes business trips. Additionally, Delta Sigma Pi organizes and volunteers in a number of community-service activities. Membership is co-ed and open to CBA and business dual-major students in good academic standing. Interested students should attend the fall or spring rush events.

Phi Chi Theta

Phi Chi Theta is a co-ed professional business fraternity that aims to help its members discover the business envrionment while providing opportunities for self-growth and socialization with other members. Activies include monthly speakers from the business community, site visits to local firms, mock interviews, an etiquette dinner, and volunteer and social activities. Membership is open to CBA and A&S/Business dual-majors; students majoring or minoring in economics, computer science, information science, communications, and statistics; and other students who are interested in business.

Phi Beta Lambda

Phi Beta Lambda is the continuation of the high-school-level organization Future Business Leaders of America.  Despite its Greek name, Phi Beta Lambda is not a fraternity or sorority. Rather, it is the largest professional student business organization of its kind, with over 250,000 members nationwide. Phi Beta Lambda aims at professionally developing its members into competent, assertive business leaders who are ready for placement in the business world after graduation. The organization focuses on three critical aspects of development: service, education, and progress. Activities include an annual job-shadowing day, professional-development workshops, state and national leadership conferences and competitive events, and corporate informational and networking workshops/sessions.  Membership is open to all business students.

American Marketing Association

The American Marketing Association aims to provide enriching professional experiences for business students intending to pursue marketing careers. The group interacts closely with marketing professionals from the Pittsburgh business community, participates in field trips to advertising agencies, sponsors an annual spring-break trip (most recently to New York City), and hosts monthly speakers. Membership is open to all marketing majors, business dual majors, and general-management majors with a concentrations in marketing.

Undergraduate Finance Club

The Undergraduate Finance Club offers finance majors the opportunity to network and professionalize their undergraduate experience. Career exploration is a major focus of the organization. The Club provides networking opportunities with financial institutions and hosts speakers on topics related to careers in finance. Club membership is open to finance majors and other business and economics majors interested in the field of finance.

Investment Banking Club

The Investment Banking Club (IBC) at the University of Pittsburgh aims to provide its members with intensive industry knowledge, advanced skill sets and a vast professional network for achieving prominent positions in today's leading investment banks. The IBC pursues its mission by educating its members about the industry and the process to obtain internship/full-tme opportunities through both business and financial development. IBC will host panel discussions, workshops, finance training, and other various events to provide its members opportunities with both regional and global investment banks. In addition, IBC will host corporate presentations that will ultimately lead to internship/full-time investment-banking recruitment.  Membership is open to University of Pittsburgh students with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. Applicants must provide a résumés and be approved by the executive board.

Roberto Clemente Minority Business Association

The Roberto Clemente Minority Business Association (RCMBA) is the quintessential resource for students of color matriculating in the College of Business Administration through academic support, leadership development, mentorship, scholarship information, and volunteerism. RCMBA is dedicated to academic excellence, visionary leadership, diversity, and service in the College of Business Administration. Although the primary target audience of RCMBA is specific to business students of color, any student interested in business is welcomed. Interested students must complete the application process that includes annual dues.

University of Pittsburgh Accounting Association

The University of Pittsburgh Accounting Association is a professional organization dedicated to the exploration of the field of accounting and serves as a student affiliate of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Its purpose is to enhance the academic and social development of students in the accounting program at the University of Pittsburgh. Activities include career development through interaction with the Pittsburgh accounting community, including corporate speakers, recruiting events, résumé workshops, and social events. Members also provide community services such as VITA (Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program) and tutoring. Membership is open to all accounting majors, and those students with an interest in learning more about the field of accounting.

Women in Business

Women in Business facilitates the professional growth and development of women enrolled in the CBA, the recognized dual major program, or CBA courses at the University of Pittsburgh, Oakland campus. We are committed to shaping young women into successful business leaders by fostering an environment of continuous growth and excellence.

ISEC—A Global Exchange Program

AISEC's primary function is placing international students in rewarding internships domestically while also sending local students abroad to work. AIESEC gives students from all over the world a chance to work abroad as a means to broaden perspectives, instead of studying abroad. As members of AIESEC, students work to find internships for incoming international students while also recruiting students to work abroad. Members are given a chance to develop professional skills (e.g. public speaking and leadership) and practical knowledge (e.g. project management, finance management, and human-resource management). Running the global exchange program means that you will be involved in practical cooperation: networking and participating in international conferences, communicating with AIESEC members around the world, meeting with companies to sell our services, and having fun. Membership is open to interested CBA, dual business majors, and other students with international interests.

Society for International Business

The Society for International Business is dedicated to helping students steer themselves into the international career arena. Those interested in learning more about the global scope of business as well as those preparing to work or study abroad will benefit from participation in this organization. Activities include trips to local internationally-minded companies, speakers, and interactions with international students at Pitt as well as Pitt students and faculty who have studied or lived abroad. Membership is open to all Pitt students regardless of academic background but is aimed primarily at students in the College of Business Administration who are pursuing the Certificate in International Business.

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

SHRM is the national organization for human-resource management and practices. It is the largest organization of its kind, with student, professional, and international chapters throughout the United States and the world. At Pitt, the student chapter hosts speakers, holds workshops, and helps prepare students for their future careers, whether they are in human-resource management or some other field. Through close work with Pitt's own human-resources department, students are able to gain hands-on and real-world experience while networking with business professionals.

Sports Business Association

The Sports Business Association works to serve as an advocate for the needs and concerns of business students interested in sports. We also hope to act as a liaison in regards to adding sports business courses into the CBA curriculum. We will provide our members with ample opportunities to network with professionals in the world of sports so that they can best prepare themselves for life after college.The organization provides networking opportunities with numerous athletic institutions and hosts speakers on topics related to careers in sports. Site visits and facility tours will be held each semester, as well as volunteer opportunities with the University of Pittsburgh Athletic Department. Membership is open to interested CBA, A&S/Business dual, and other students with an interest in sports business.

Business Honor Societies

Beta Gamma Sigma

Beta Gamma Sigma is the national honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International. It is equivalent to Phi Beta Kappa in the liberal arts. Membership is by invitation only to qualified Juniors and Seniors.

Beta Alpha Psi

Beta Alpha Psi is a national honors fraternity that enhances the university educational experience by providing interaction with finance, information-systems and accounting professionals, conducting technical and personal-development programs through campus, regional and national meetings, and promoting and encouraging community service. Throughout the fall and spring semesters, BSPsi invites a variety of business information professionals to present timely and informative topics to our student members and any other interested students. They also participate in and organize a variety of community-service opportunities each semester. Students must have both cumulative and major QPAs of at least 3.5 to be eligible for membership.
