CBA Exchange Partner: Rouen Business School, Rouen, France
Homepage
Description
Rouen, the city with 100 towers, is famous for its Gothic architecture and the charm of its historic streets with its 1,200 half-timbered houses. Rouen attracts tourists from around the world, with the memory of Joan of Arc, the paintings of Monet and descriptions of the great writers: Flaubert, Maupassant and Victor Hugo.
Ten minutes from campus, Rouen offers students all the attractions of a big city: cinemas, museums, theaters, concert halls and opera. With its 400,000 inhabitants, Rouen is a dynamic city who has developed its previously industrial areas along the Seine to the west into areas of services, leisure and commerce near the largest drawbridge road to Europe.
Nestled in a bend of the Seine, the Rouen city also has an exceptional natural environment, the foundation of its prosperity and quality of life for its inhabitants. The Seine, the symbol of the momentum of this city, has walkways and borders with trees that bring its docks to life.
Upper Normandy is the youngest region of France with 36.5% of population under 25 years. Its two departments, Eure (27) and Seine-Maritime (76) extend over an area of 12,317 kilometers (2% of national territory). Its 1.74 million inhabitants represent 3% of the French population.
A strong economy:
- 60% of French production of lubricants, 50% plastics, 30% of cars
- 4th French region for foreign trade
- 1 region for the production of flax
- 6th region for research.
In 1920, Rouen Business School welcomed its first group of international students, coming from Sweden and Norway. Since then, the school has never ceased to expand its exchanges with the best foreign universities and business schools, to create an exceptional network of partnerships which is today one of the School's major strengths.

Entry Requirement
- Students should check the necessity for a visa with the French local authorities and be aware that the process may be lengthy. So it is advisable to make enquiries well in advance. No student will be accepted without a student visa.
- Non-EU students may have to apply for a residence permit ("titre de séjour" or "carte de séjour). Applications are done after arrival in Rouen through the coordinator. In that case, a medical examination is mandatory. This is arranged by the local authorities and costs around €55.
Housing
The ROUEN Business School International Office can book accommodation for students, but cannot guarantee availability of all types of rooms:
- On campus: Room (9m2) or studio (around 18 m2) - €210 to €330 per month
- Off-campus: studio (around 20m2) or F1 (around 25m2) - €420 to €540 per month
- Homestay: A great opportunity to share the daily life of a real family. A good way to improve your French level and to discover the French culture.
- An alternative to student accommodation is to find an apartment in Rouen, the cost of which varies from €300 upwards (although those who share will obviously find one cheaper). Students wishing to rent an apartment, however, are responsible for finding it themselves, although the International Office can help them in their search. In that case, students should arrive early.
- Note that all accommodation booked through ROUEN Business School must be confirmed by payment of the total amount due for the semester (rents + fees), which depends on the type of housing.
Estimated Budget
- Meals can be obtained at the University Restaurants for approximately €3.50.
- Students should expect to spend around €500 per month for living expenses (not including housing). Students can open a bank account at a local bank when they arrive and can be helped in this process by members of the Student Council. This is particularly recommended for students staying the full academic year. Euros can be drawn from Cash Machines with an International Visa card or Mastercard.
- Students MUST have health insurance coverage to stay in France. After arrival on campus, non-EU students will have to subscribe to the National French Student Social Security Scheme for a fee of € 195 (2008 - 09 fees). They will also need a private insurance policy covering health care, repatriation, etc. A copy of this health insurance policy should be sent along with the application form. Note that the French Social Security will reimburse only a percentage of the medical/ hospital costs ranging from 35% to 70%. It is therefore advisable to take out additional personal health insurance coverage. This complementary insurance (called a mutuelle) can be bought in France for around €100 by those students staying for the whole year. This mutuelle also includes the third party cover.
Financial Aid/Scholarships
State, Federal, and campus-based financial aid, with the exception of Federal Work-Study, will in most cases apply to a student's study abroad experience. Students should contact the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid in order to verify all Financial Aid eligibility information. In order for a student's financial aid to apply, s/he must complete the Study Abroad Contract. Once a student speaks to a financial aid representative, that representative will sign the student's contract. At this meeting, students should be prepared to discuss the Cost of Attendance Increase Form.
