Profile
G. Richard Patton is active as a management consultant and is involved in the venture capital area as a director or founder of several new technology-based companies. He has also taught at Carnegie Mellon University and Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. Other professional positions he has held include assistant professor of business administration at the University of Pittsburgh (1976–78), and vice president and chief administrative officer of Mellon Institute (1979–81).
Patton received his PhD in strategic management from the Krannert School of Administration at Purdue University, at which time he was awarded the first annual General Electric Award for Outstanding Research in Strategic Planning by the Academy of Management. His research, publications, and consulting interests include strategy development, mergers and acquisitions, divestment, turnaround management and restructuring strategies, and entrepreneurship. Patton is also an associate of the Strategic Management Institute.
