Profile
Professor Smith holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Masters in Management degree from Sloan School of Management, M.I.T. He began his career as a management consultant with Booz-Alan & Hamilton. Thereafter, Professor Smith built a successful international career, managing US subsidiaries in Osaka, Japan; Seoul, Korea; and Campinas, Brazil. In the United States, he has been CEO over joint technology ventures with Swiss, German, and Japanese partners. Professor Smith continues to assist business executives as a strategy consultant and executive coach.
His MBA teaching faculty (in addition to Katz) includes the Czech Management Center, Czech Republic; visiting lecturer at the Graduate School of Business, the National University of Singapore business schools; and nine years as adjunct professor of industrial administration, the Graduate School of Industrial Administration, Carnegie-Mellon University.
