Undergraduates, masters' students, doctoral students and faculty are all eligible for admission into Beta Gamma Sigma, but the requirements differ for each group.
To be eligible for membership, the academic ranking of those being considered must place them in the upper 7 percent of the junior class, upper 10 percent of the senior class, or upper 20 percent of the graduating master's class. Local chapters may require higher standards. While almost 300,000 students receive bachelor's or master's degrees in business in the U.S. each year, only about 19,000 students are elected to membership in Beta Gamma Sigma.
To qualify as a doctoral student, a candidate must have successfully completed all requirements for the doctoral degree.
As you may know, this is an honor bestowed upon only a select segment of the business faculty and professionals across the country. But if you wait to join BGS as a faculty member, you will not be eligible until you achieve tenure. This would delay your invitation to join the Society for several years.
Members of the administration, faculty or research staff of the school or college of business holding full-time appointments may be inducted to active membership without restriction to their number. They must, however, have attained tenure at the school or college of business where they are inducted. For those faculty where tenure is not applicable, invitation to membership may be extended after the individual has completed six years of such work at the school or college where inducted.
