New research shows that social media mentions have a substantially bigger effect on a company's sales than do the effects of a news story in a traditional media outlet. What does this mean for digital marketers?
This summer, Pitt M&BE participated in the first Annual Marketing and Research Conference, AKA our four-school consortium, hosted by the University of Maryland's Marketing department at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Special thanks to Drs. Anastasiya Pocheptsova and Tao Chen at Maryland for orchestrating such a great event.
This new consortium includes Carnegie Mellon University, Pitt, Penn State and Maryland, and will hold the conference annually. Over 100 faculty members and Ph.D. students from the four schools attended, to listen to and discuss new research by Dr. Roland Rust (Maryland), Dr. Kinshuk Jerath (CMU), Dr. Jeff Inman (Pitt), and Dr. Lisa Bolton (Penn State).
Ph.D. students Pinar Yildirim, Sara Loughran and Didem Kurt also did an outstanding job presenting their research during the poster session.
Next year's MARC gathering will bring everyone to Pittsburgh - we look forward to hosting another enlightening, challenging colloquium!
In addition to outstanding research, Dr. Stephen's cutting-edge classes in social media have been profiled in the New York Times and garnered numerous teaching awards. At Katz, Andrew will teach classes in Social Media Marketing and Strategy at the MBA and undergraduate levels, while also looking forward to collaborations with Ph.D. students.Pitt Marketing and Business Economics is delighted to welcome Dr. Andrew Stephen to the group. February 2012 Presenters:Each year, the Pitt Marketing and Business Economics group hosts our annual Sheth Camp at Seven Springs Ski Resort. This is a unique opportunity for faculty and Ph.D. students to spend a few days skiing, tubing and talking about research with some of the leaders in the field. It also provides the forum for the yearly, highly-competitive group bowling competition.
Next year's guests are still TBD, but we're sure it'll be another great event.
The group, as always, thanks Dr. Jagdish Sheth (Katz Ph.D., 1966) for his generous support of the Marketing Camp.
