CPA Licensing in Pennsylvania

Students

After December 31, 2011, CPA candidates who have not already passed at least one part of the CPA exam will be required to earn a total of 150 credits of coursework to be licensed as a CPA in Pennsylvania. Public accounting firms in Pennsylvania have already shown a preference for hiring students who have earned 150 total credits. At present, anyone wishing to be certified as a CPA in almost any state other than Pennsylvania must have completed 150 credit hours of coursework. Pennsylvania CPA firms that want their employees to be certified when they work on clients in other states are reluctant to hire students who have not fulfilled the 150-credit hour requirement. Moreover, because of the pending implementation of the new law in Pennsylvania, many recruiters are expressing a strong interest in hiring candidates now who have already fulfilled the new requirement and therefore will not need to earn additional college credits to be certified. The MS in Accounting Program at Katz is an attractive way to fulfill the 150 credit requirement.
