MBA Admissions Selection Criteria and Interviews

An admissions committee made up of admissions staff and faculty review every application to Katz. To select students for our program, the admissions committee evaluates your application materials as well as feedback from any additional interactions you may have had with admissions representatives. As part of this highly competitive selection process, we consider a variety of criteria that measure your demonstrated skills and assess your potential as a Katz MBA student, future business leader, and alumnus.

We assess you in three different areas, including:

Previous academic performance and analytical skill
By evaluating your prior course work and your score on the GMAT exam, we assess your ability to conduct quantitative analysis, your business acumen, and your overall intellectual ability.
Demonstrated leadership skills and record of accomplishments
Your résumé reflects your work experience to this point. In addition to your résumé, during your interview you will have an opportunity to articulate examples of your ability to assume responsibility and use your leadership skills to achieve measurable results. Your recommendation forms also give us insight into these areas, as well as your interpersonal and communication skills.
Goals and objectives
You have the opportunity through your personal essays and during your interview to convey the plan you have mapped for your future career. It is important for us to see how you connect your experiences to your future aspirations.

Interviews

Interviews are conducted on campus, off campus, or by telephone if is not possible to meet in person.

One-Year or Two-Year MBA Program
While not a strict requirement for every prospective candidate, evaluative interviews are conducted regularly prior to the first application deadline. After the first application deadline, interviews are arranged by invitation from the Katz School. Last year, 97 percent of applicants to the Full-time MBA program were interviewed.
Part-Time or Immersion MBA Program
Interviews are arranged by invitation and take place after the admissions committee's initial review of a candidate's application.
