Military Candidate Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are scholarships available for military personnel?

A. Yes. Applications received before February 1 will automatically be reviewed for scholarships; no additional application is required. Scholarships available through the Katz School range from $3,000 to full MBA program tuition, with an average award of $10,000-$12,000.

Q. What will happen if I’m deployed at some time during my MBA studies?

A. If you are deployed during your enrollment in our MBA program you will be permitted to pick up where you left off once you return from your tour of duty. There may be an opportunity to work with a faculty member on an independent study project during your deployment if your schedule permits.

Q. Do you have any clubs for military personnel?

A. Assistant Professor Jay Sukits, a veteran, has recently started a club for student veterans and military personnel. The University's Office of Veterans Services is also a great resource for members of the armed services, veterans, and their families.

Q. I'm active duty military. Am I considered in-state or out-of-state?

A. Active duty military personnel are granted in-state tuition. It is necessary for a copy of the student’s orders to be on file with the University of Pittsburgh.

Q. I have been out of college for several years and I am concerned about taking the GMATŪ exam.

A. You are not alone. The average business school applicant has been out of college for at least three years. GMAT preparatory courses and materials are readily available to help you succeed on the exam. As an added incentive, if you decide to enroll in a GMAT preparatory class, Katz will reimburse you the course fee once you matriculate. Keep in mind that the GMATŪ exam is only one of the criteria considered during the admissions process. Your undergraduate grade point average, references, evaluative interview, and essays also weigh heavily on the admission decision.
