Benefits of Hiring International Students
International students possess a unique set of skills and experiences that make them an asset to U.S. employers and multinational corporations.
- Multilingual skills, multicultural perspective, awareness and knowledge of global business practices and markets
- Ability to access a worldwide network of peers that can be invaluable to a U.S. employer.
- Work experience within a multi-national team environment
- Strong work ethic, high degree of motivation, and ability to perform in today's market place.
- Familiarity and understanding of American business practices and theories learned through the MBA program.
International students who are in the U.S. as an F-1 or J-1 student (non-immigrant) are generally eligible to apply for student work authorization upon completion of their academic program/studies, provided that they secure the necessary authorization before beginning employment. Work authorization and authorization procedures can vary according to the student's immigration visa.
How Our KATZPORT Program Makes Hiring International Candidates Easier
At Katz, we are acutely aware that today's marketplace knows few geographical boundaries. We work hard to ensure that our graduates are placed where their skills are most needed, regardless of geography or their citizenship. This is why we have developed KATZPORT.
KATZPORT is a program designed to:
- Assist students and employers in navigating and understanding the immigration process with clear, concise information.
- Provide students with targeted/specific instruction on immigration law and procedure as it relates to their unique situation.
What are KATZPORT's Legal Services?
The KATZPORT partnership allows the University of Pittsburgh's Office of International Services (OIS) and immigration attorney to work one-on-one with employers to secure the appropriate visas and employment authorizations from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that enable Katz international graduates to work in the United States.
An immigration attorney, retained by the Katz school will assist with securing H-1B status on behalf of Katz graduates. The attorney will represent both the employer and the employee in this process and will:
- Develop the appropriate strategy for the student's unique situation,
- Provide a detailed explanation of the process and obligations entailed in securing H-1B visa status,
- Secure the required Prevailing Wage Determination and prepare the Public Access File,
- Draft appropriate letters of support,
- Draft the required immigration forms,
- Consult with the employer and graduate throughout the process,
- Complete and file the final package with USCIS, and
- Monitor the processing of the petition through to completion.
The above legal services are designed to facilitate the employment of Katz international MBA graduates. Employers are responsible for the H-1B filing fees as well as copying or mailing fees associated with submitting the H-1B petition.
What is a KATZPORT Evaluation?
A KATZPORT evaluation is designed for each international MBA student. This evaluation includes a detailed analysis of each student's current legal status and his or her eligibility to secure employment authorization in the United States.
This evaluation is conducted by an immigration attorney and will be provided in the form of an opinion letter. The evaluation can then be presented to prospective employers to reduce concerns about the company's ability to employ Katz international MBA graduates.
