Orientation and Development
A comprehensive orientation program helps Katz students get off on the right foot. Technical workshops in accounting, ethics, business math, and statistics provide a solid foundation for MBA study.
One-year and two-year students are grouped into Multi-cultural Learning Teams. Through a variety of exercises, Katz students quickly learn to recognize and leverage the synergy and skills of their team. We are very pleased to have partnered with the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh where we gather for an evening of creativity, teamwork, and perception. At the Children's Museum, the teams go through a variety of team building projects to help them understand the value of working together. We follow this fun-filled evening with a day of community-based activities capped by an evening of dinner and dancing at a local Pittsburgh venue. The result: close knit teams and lasting memories!
Given the demands of part-time students' schedules and their need to balance full-time employment with school, work, and home responsibilities, Part-Time MBA program orientations are held on the Friday evening or Saturday morning prior to the first week of every term. During this four-hour session, students learn all they need to know to begin the program, including an overview of Katz policies and procedures for successfully navigating the program, first-hand accounts of the numerous leadership and extra-curricular opportunities available at Katz, and a list of core courses taken during the first term. The orientation also includes exercises to help students get acquainted with their fellow classmates. Students leave the session feeling fully equipped to begin the exciting educational journey that lies ahead!
Diversity
Once the term begins, the diverse student body inherently exposes students to an amazing breadth of backgrounds and cultures, both inside and outside the classroom. International students formally share their culture by hosting celebratory International Days and Nights.
Workshops
Students also augment classroom learning with important life skills for MBAs through the Katz Professional Development Workshops. These workshops equip students to handle themselves in their role as a manager. You'll learn more about signing up for these workshops during orientation. Professional Development Workshops include:
- Time Management Strategies
- Stress Management Workshop
- Making Effective Presentations
- Business Etiquette Workshop
- Wine Etiquette and Tasting Seminar
