Part-Time MBA Program

MBA student

The combination of reputation and affordability make the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business the school of choice for a part-time MBA. You earn a world-recognized degree at a low cost; currently $904 per credit for Pennsylvania residents or $1,494 per credit for non-Pennsylvania residents.

The Katz part-time MBA program has recently been ranked among the top part-time programs in the nation. With a world-class faculty, the program encompasses the same techniques and teaching philosophies as the full-time program. Full-time program electives are offered in the evening to accommodate part-time students. A sample program of study is available.

Part-time students have access to many of the same resources as full-time students. Major benefits of the part-time program include:

  • A rigorous, AASCB-accredited MBA curriculum
  • The world-class Katz faculty
  • Membership in an alumni network spread throughout the world, making the Katz MBA degree one that is recognized worldwide

The time frame to complete this program is about three years.

Part-Time Students Receive First-Class Treatment at Katz

You will be part of the Katz community. You will be able to expand your network of friends and business associates greatly. You not only learn from the professors but also your peers!

You're actually in the majority here. Part-time students outnumber full-time MBA students about three to one.

You take the same basic curriculum (with a few exceptions), and choose from the same electives, taught by the same faculty.

You enjoy a full range of student perks: a free pass on public transit in Allegheny County, career services from the Katz Career Services Center, access to the Pitt library system, fitness facilities, and student tickets to events, as well as low-rate parking in nearby garages.

Why Choose the Part-Time Program?

  • Many have used the Katz part-time MBA to move up into management,
  • To change careers, or
  • To improve in their present jobs.

Part-Time Calendar and Course Load

Most part-time students earn their MBAs in three years, usually by taking six credits per term. The program runs year-round with fall, spring, and summer trimesters of 14 weeks each. Classes are offered weekday evenings as well as Saturdays.

What It Takes

You can start the part-time MBA in September, January, or April. Each term has its own application deadline.

In deciding whom to admit, the admission committee looks at the whole person. Academic record, work record, GMAT score, essay responses, and other factors are all considered. Personal interviews are conducted by invitation from the admission committee.

Successful candidates will have the following:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. school, or the non-U.S. equivalent.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English.

Typical part-time students are working professionals. They come from engineering, sales, health care, law, and many other fields. A growing number are entrepreneurs or members of small firms. If you already hold a significant management position, you may be better served by the Katz Executive MBA program.
