Leadership at Katz

Graduate school is more than life inside the classroom. Through the many Katz co-curricular elements, students have the opportunity to literally transform themselves into more effective leaders.

Orientation

A comprehensive orientation program also helps students get off on the right foot. Technical workshops in accounting, ethics, business math, and statistics provide a solid grounding for MBA study.

One-year and two-year students are grouped into Multi-cultural Learning Teams. Through a variety of exercises, Katz students quickly learn to recognize and leverage the synergy and skills of their group. A few days later, a long-standing Katz tradition is to take the entire entering class off-campus for yet more intensive physical and mental teambuilding, followed by a little golf, serious socializing, and an overnight stay at Oglebay Resort in the neighboring state of West Virginia. The result: close-knit teams and lasting memories! Katz alumni often fondly reminisce about their Oglebay experience!

Given the demands of part-time students' schedules and their need to balance full-time employment with school work and home responsibilities, Part-Time MBA Program orientations are held on the Friday evening or Saturday morning prior to the first week of every term. During this four-hour session, students learn all they need to know to begin the program, including an overview of Katz policies and procedures for successfully navigating the program, first-hand accounts of the numerous leadership and extra-curricular opportunities available at Katz, and a list of core courses taken during the first term. The orientation also includes exercises to help students get acquainted with their fellow classmates. Students leave the session feeling fully equipped to being the exciting educational journey that lies ahead!

Diversity

Once the term begins, the diverse student body inherently exposes students to an amazing breadth of backgrounds and cultures, both inside and outside the classroom. International students share their culture formally by hosting celebratory International Days and Nights.

Workshops

Students also augment classroom learning with important life skills for MBAs through the Katz Professional Development Workshops. These workshops equip students to handle themselves in their role as a manager.

Clubs and Organizations

A variety of clubs and organizations at Katz enable students to practice leadership while literally shaping the student experience.

Other Opportunities

Students also compete in a variety of case competitions within Katz and at other universities. The annual Berg Center-sponsored Ethics Case Competition for full-time students exemplifies the Katz School’s commitment to ethical leadership.
