Katz PhD Teaching Policy
Students in the PhD Program are expected to gain classroom-teaching experience (at least six credits) as primary instructors before graduating. Students receiving GSA/TA/TF are required to teach the equivalent of 15 credits. The Katz PhD Teaching Policy provides additional information.
Libraries
The Katz School has a wealth of resources that doctoral students can take advantage of, including our faculty, the faculty of the University at large, the University Library System, and Pitt’s many research centers.
Mervis Hall is home to the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and the University of Pittsburgh’s Business Library. This library has available most of the journals and reference materials necessary for doctoral student research.
The Doctoral Student Organization
The Katz Doctoral Student Organization (DSO), comprised of doctoral students at all program stages, serves as a vehicle for students to interact with one another, with faculty, and with university administration. The DSO sponsors numerous activities of interest to doctoral students, including skills workshops, colloquia, and social activities. As liaisons between students and faculty, DSO officers meet regularly to discuss and recommend policies and ideas that help enhance and enrich the Katz doctoral program experience.
The officers are elected annually. We invite you to contact any of the DSO officers with your questions about the Katz Doctoral Program.
