Dell Founder to Appear April 12 via Video Conference at the University of Pittsburgh and 17 Other CIBER Institutions
Michael S. Dell to discuss international business and answer MBA students' questions in real time
PITTSBURGH—The International Business Center in the University of Pittsburgh’s Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business has organized a real-time video conference with Michael S. Dell, founder and chairman of the Board of Directors of Dell computers. Dell will address Master of Business Administration students April 12 at 1 p.m. Seventeen other institutions with Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) will be able to take part in the Pitt video conference owing Internet2’s next generation network.
The event will begin with Dell sharing his experience of and insights into international business. After his remarks, Dell will field questions from Pitt students, as well as students from Duke University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Indiana University, Michigan State University, Ohio State University, Purdue University, Temple University, Thunderbird-The American Graduate School of International Management, and the universities of Colorado at Denver, Connecticut, Hawaii at Manoa, Kansas, Memphis, Michigan, South Carolina, and Washington.
In 1984, Dell founded the computer manufacturer that bears his name. Eight years later, Dell became the youngest chief executive officer to earn a ranking on the Fortune 500. He serves on the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum, the executive committee of the International Business Council, the U.S. President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, and the governing board of the Indian School of Business in Hyderbad, India. In addition, Dell is a member of the U.S. Business Council.
Led by more than 200 U.S. universities working in partnership with industry and government, Internet2 develops and deploys advanced network applications and technologies for research and higher education.
There are 30 CIBERs nationwide, which are funded by grants from the International Education and Graduate Programs Service of the U.S. Department of Education authorized under Title VI, part B of the Higher Education Act. These centers are national resources for the teaching of improved business techniques, strategies, and methodologies that emphasize the international context in which business is transacted. The funding allows the institutions to develop curriculum and conduct research and training on issues of importance to the United States trade and competitiveness.
