Supply chains of the manufacturing and transportation era have essentially become value chains, which have relevance in every type of organization and industry. Understanding what drives these value chains allows firms in any industry to prosper.
Value chain management potentially is a philosophy of organization that stresses the development of an appropriate mix of hard and soft skills to drive an organization’s results in a competitive marketplace. More than just the mathematical formulae that support upstream optimization efforts, business education must include exposure to optimal ways of managing people, information, and organizational relationships.

Do Corrupt Individuals Make a Corrupt Organization?
In a forthcoming paper coauthors Jonathan Pinto, a Katz doctoral student, Carrie Leana, and Frits Pil, Katz faculty members, introduce a new construct, "organization of corrupt individuals" (OCI) and compare and contrast this construct with a prevailing notion of organizational corruption, corrupt organization. Their research has intriguing implications, including that governmental organizations are susceptible to OCI.

Digging In
College of Business Administration sophomore Diana Trench is not afraid of a little hard work. As a freshman, she built Pitt’s chapter of Phi Beta Lambda from the ground up, hand selecting members of the chapter’s executive board. Together, the board is creating exciting opportunities for CBA students to network and develop their leadership abilities.

Sailing With a Nobel Laureate
When the MV Explorer left the port of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., January 25, passengers onboard the 24,000-ton vessel were Pitt professor of information systems and shutterbug Dennis Galletta and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, winner of the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize, as well as a 125-person crew and more than 630 other passengers.
