Katz Welcomes New One-Year MBA Students

On Tuesday, May 13, the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business welcomed 25 new students to the one-year MBA program.

After greetings from Dean John Delaney; Executive Associate Dean John Camillus, the Donald R. Beall Professor of Strategic Management; and Assistant Dean and Director of MBA Programs Bill Valenta, students participated in a series of presentations by the various interest groups followed by a faculty-staff lunch in Jazzman's Café. Following lunch, students had the opportunity to get to know one another better through the Community Building Workshop lead by Professor Jim Craft.

The following day was a day of getting computers up and running, registering for courses, and taking exemption exams. On Thursday, May 15, the Career Services staff delivered a program that was very well received by students and included a panel of local business executives. A working lunch and the first of three ethics modules were followed by a mixer at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association. And although Pittsburgh's National Hockey League franchise, the Penguins, did not cooperate by sweeping rivals the Philadelphia Flyers and clinching a berth in the Stanley Cup finals, students had the opportunity to enjoy a night of socializing and bowling with their colleagues, current and former MBA students, and MBA staff members.

Students concluded their first week in the program by participating in a leadership simulation—wherein they worked in teams to climb Mount Everest—and, after reaching the summit of the world's highest mountain, completing the final ethics module.

This new class boasts impressive credentials, including a mean GMAT score of 613, a mean GPA of 3.51, and an average of 5.16 years of work experience. Please join the entire Katz community in welcoming our new one-year MBA students!
